Advice on available benefits

Some benefits are 'means-tested', where they take into account your income and/or savings, whilst other benefits are not means-tested.

Non-means-tested benefits

Personal Independence Payment

For people over 16 and under state retirement age at first application, who because of their disability are limited in how they manage their daily lives and/or are limited in how far they can walk outside.

Attendance Allowance

For people over state retirement age at first application who need help with their personal care.

Child Disability Living Allowance

For a disabled child over 3 months and under 16 years old at first application, who because of their disability requires more help with their personal care than a child of the same age, and/or is limited in how far they can walk outside.

Means-tested benefits

Universal Credit

For someone with no or low income. Please note: we are only able to support people with a disability to make a claim - for everyone else, please contact your local Citizens Advice for help.

Carers' Allowance

For someone caring for a person who has an award of Attendance Allowance, Personal Independence Payment or Child Disability Living Allowance. The person providing the care must do so for at least 35 hours per week and, if working, earn less than the Earnings Disregard in force during the current financial year or, if of pensionable age, receive a pension of less than the current rate of Carers’ Allowance.

Employment & Support Allowance

For people with a disability or long-term health condition that affects how much they can work, or who are unable to work.

Pension Credit

For people of pension age with low income.
