Popular Office Manager Retires

The whole Team at New Forest Disability were sad to say ‘au-revoir’

to popular Office Manager Josey Carpenter who had been with the charity for almost eight years.

During her years with New Forest Disability she has helped

the Team grow and expand their knowledge; increase their capacity to help over 2,000 clients per annum

and to successfully pass AQS quality audits every two years.

Co-ordinating all aspects of the office from booking client appointments,

line managing volunteer Information Officers to supporting the charity’s training programme

to keep abreast of government legislation, has kept her busy in this multi-tasking post.

Chief Executive Jacki Keable said ‘ it is a sad day for New Forest Disability

however we have benefitted from Josey’s input over the years and her

tireless commitment to providing the very best, free disability advice service

that we can for the residents of the New Forest, for which we thank her most sincerely’

Presenting her with a pair of garden urns and a cake made as a copy of her desk,

(complete with herself by it as shown), the Team wished Josey well with

the next chapter in her life and are delighted she will keep in touch

and continue to attend the charity’s fundraising events in the future.

We were delighted to read this letter in

Friday 3 March 2017 A&T

- our thanks to Mr Powell for

taking the time to write to the press!

Disability Service Praise

Sir, I was delighted to read in the A&T that the New Forest

Disability Information Service has been

awarded yet another well-deserved accolade.
I dropped in twice to Lymington Hospital

to get advice, and on both occasions the

ladies were helpful and efficient.

Red tape and bureaucracy being the bane

of modern life, I went to them to see if they

could help with a couple of problems.
Lo and behold, a charming lady filled out the forms,

could not have been more helpful and, within a few weeks,

my needs had been sorted.

So, if you feel you need guidance on any disability

problems, do not hesitate.  The dates and times the

Information Service is available and where,

can be seen in the A&T Coming Events section each week.

Charity Gala Ball

New Forest District Council's Chairman, Councillor Goff Beck,  hosted his
Gala Ball at Hoburne Bashley on Saturday 11 February 2017.  The event raised
over £3,500 for Cllr Beck's two chosen charities.

The Chairman hosted over 100 guests at Hoburne Bashley at a charity gala
dinner to raise funds for his two charities,
New Forest Disability Information Service and First Opportunities.

The event was attended by Civic Leaders
of Hampshire and Dorset, Sir Desmond Swayne TD MP and Dr Julian Lewis MP, New
Forest and New Milton Town Councillors and representatives of the charities.

Guests were entertained by Royal Marine Bugler Anthony Reilly, who displayed his drum skills
then sounded the dinner call and took port with the Chairman, followed by a three course dinner
and dancing to Rick Rock and the Rowdies.  17 Port and Maritime Regiment
RLC, who received the Freedom of the District last September, were also
represented by their commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Kirsten Dagless RLC
and Major Lee Rickard RLC.

Paralympic swimmer Mikey Jones MBE and his mother Shirley were most entertaining guests,
with everyone delighted to see Mikey's gold medal which he won at the
Rio Paralympics in 2016

The event also received the support of ExxonMobil and New Forest Ice Cream
through kind sponsorship along with many local businesses who donated raffle

Disability Information Group Awarded Quality Mark for 14th Year

The Team at New Forest Disability Information Service are celebrating today
for successfully passing the Advice Quality Standard (AQS), a nationally recognised quality mark
for organisations providing free, independent advice to members of the public.

Chief Executive Jacki Keable said ‘We are so pleased to have continued to be awarded the AQS
as it shows the people using our service in the New Forest, as well as those funding our service,
that we are working to the best possible professional standards.
This year’s audit had an amazing outcome whereby we scored 100% compliance!
The team of staff and volunteers have worked very hard to keep the AQS
and the public may be reassured we shall maintain these high standards over the course of the coming years.’
The AQS is awarded by the national umbrella group, the Advice Services Alliance.
The ASA Director Lindsey Poole said: ‘The AQS is a tough benchmark to achieve,
particularly in challenging times for the voluntary sector and our clients and
we offer congratulations to New Forest Disability Information Service for so clearly making the grade.’
NFDIS will continue to proudly display the AQS logo, part of the community of over
650 organisations across the country of AQS holders.

One recent client said ‘ I cannot thank you enough; without your knowledge and advice
I would not have got my benefits back – you have given me my life back and
I am truly grateful’.
