Easter Extravaganza - Monday 9 March

chef with white chocolate torte

60 people were treated to a display of culinary expertise by Peter Leyland-Jones

Chef/Proprietor of Lanes in Lymington on Monday evening in NFDIS' latest fundraising venture.

The evening started with a complimentary glass of fizz to get everyone in the mood,

Peter cooked a three course meal whilst entertaining the audience with tips and quips about

cooking.   Each course had a suggested appropriate wine of choice by Fergus from Majestic Wine of Lymington,

who talked about flavour, location of each wine and how well each would enhance the enjoyment of the various dishes.  We watched Peter prepare Avocado and Crab Cheesecake as the starter and Fillet of Pork wrapped in bacon with an Apricot Stuffing as main with a beautifully displayed selection of tasty vegetables.

During the break the audience enthusiastically embraced tasting of the wines that had just been presented by Fergus from Majestic Wine.  After about half an hour of dilligent imbibing, the assembled watched part two.

Peter made a White Chocolate Torte including chocolate decorated fruit and shapes, learning how to make a paper piping bag along the way.  The biggest 'oohs' came when Peter displayed sugar spinning making a fine spiders web of spun sugar to top the dessert.  The dessert was auctioned to the delight of one winning bidder who took it home.

Richard focused his camera on the Chef, displaying the picture on a huge screen ensuring everyone had a perfect view and no-one missed anything.

The NFDIS Fundraising Team can be justly proud of arranging this fine evening of cooking demonstration, wine tasting, finishing off with a raffle, mainly of fine bottles, all in support of NFDIS.

Our grateful thanks go to Lanes, Majestic Wine and Richard

for making a most enjoyable evening.
